You are going to hear an interview about the James Bond films. First, listen to some important words from the interview. Write them down and make sure you understand them before you listen to the interview.

A stunt is a dangerous action in a film.

In the James Bond films, Q's workshop is the place where all the special gadgets are made for james Bond and other secret agents.

Life threatening means something that is very dangerous.

The villain is something that can kill a person.

Listent to this interview about James Bond with Dean Lochran, the press officer for the National Museum for Photography, Film and Television in Bradford, England.
We askeds him what is the James Bond formula ?

The films open with a pre-title sequence which is extremely exiting, it's usually an extremely complex and dangerous stunt. And then that's followed by a briefing from M, Bond's boss, his visit to the laboratory, or his visit to Q's workshop, where he's given the gadgets that will save the day during the rest of the film. He will meet at least one, probably two or three beautiful women. He will be put into life-threatening situations. And he will meet the villain, overcome the villain and save the day.

Could you talk about some of these gadgets ?

Ian Fleming, who wrote the original stories, did work for the Secret Service and he knew that during the war there were many things that were used in occupied France and Germany which were secret weapons. And he took that idea and he put that into the books and that came through also in the films. So you have things like the briefcase in From Russia With Love that contains money, it explodes if the wrong person opens it. James Bond had a car phone in 1965.

Most of the stunts in James Bond films were actually performed, there're not computer images. Could you tell us something about this ?

In Bond, if you see someone jump from the Eiffel Tower wearing a parachute or a ride motorbike off a cliff, somebody actually does it. So it's an extremely dangerous and physical world on the Bond set.
